The first weekend of cyclocross racing in Roanoke, VA was awesome! It was great to see everyone again and get to know the team better. Thanks to Steve for ensuring our bikes were ready to go and Mo for the incredible support she provides. GoCross put on such a great event and did a wonderful job of promoting women’s racing. In order to make the women’s race the highlight of the day, KK and I raced at 4pm, the final event of the day.
Saturday, we were fortunate that it rained a little, helping the dry, dusty course become tackier and cooling the temp down a little! I was really focused on improving my usually not so good starts. The gun went off and I found myself near the front. I rode in 3rd with Caroline Mani and Sunny Gilbert for the first few laps. I faded a bit and ended up 8th. I was so happy to be near the front for the first race of the season and improve my start.
Sunday did not go quite as well. I had an okay start but then the 90 degree heat really got to me. I just felt terrible. The highlight of the day was definitely jumping in the pool after the race! I am looking forward to racing next weekend in Rochester, NY with cooler temperatures!
